Mother Nature is as confused as I am

is it any wonder that I am sick? with the weather the way it is.. it has been raining here for nearly three weeks.. or more. I am not complaining, mind you Our dams have gone from 38% capacity to over 60%!Temperature around 25C (80F)... then a sunny day that reaches in the mid 30'sC (90F).... then rain again but this time with fog where you can't see in front of you and temps dropping down to 5C (40F) - with me running for my cardigan and warm socks. The electrical storms have been absolutely amazing... sitting at the Three Sisters while Mother Nature puts on a lightning show .. an extraordinary sight.

The other day I had to drive to Leura to buy myself some herbal drops and it was eerie... the fog was so thick, I could hardly see a few feet in front of me... at this rate, I reckon I just may have a White midsummer !
I am feeling alot better today.. I slept all night without pain... thanks to copious amounts of garlic and other wonderful things (as well as the dreadful chemicals that I had to take). I have also been looked after by my nature friends... the other day, on the day my illness peaked.. I was sitting in my big pink chair feeling sorry for myself and just as I was looking out the window at the rain.. a little humming bird fluttered for a moment before flying off into the magnolia tree.... the humming bird is the totem animal for the throat chakra. a co-incidence? synchronicity? or just something that happened in the web of life?

my garden is OUT OF CONTROL! I haven't been able to get out into it for weeks due to the rain... of course, this rain means blackspot for my roses.. my potatoes have probably rotted in the ground and the snails have wreaked havoc on the rest of my vegies that I had planted. So I hereby give up trying to grow vegetables until next year. It is too late to be trying to start new summer cropping vegetables now. I hate snails, I really do. but then I wonder if I am hypocritical about animal welfare... I know that snails are living creatures .... is it ok to kill them? that sounds dreadful.. the word kill....... I need to think long and hard at this snail dilemma. The Buddhist monk across the road won't even walk on grass incase he treads on a living creature... I wonder what he would do if snails were desecrating his vegetable garden. But if I don't cull the snail population, I will have nothing left in my garden.
sometimes, I think I worry too much. Or maybe it is just all the chemicals I have taken over the past few days playing havoc with my mind.

snails are just disgusting, so are slugs, not that keen on worms either, but at least they do good.
What purpose to the slugs ans snails perform?
so glad your feeling better and what wonderful synchronicity.

My son and I used to spend hours when we lived in the city, rescuing snails from being stepped on after it rained. He would pick them up and put them under the bushes. He's 28 now and still does the same thing. So do I....

I am so glad you went to the doctor though and you are feeling a tiny bit better. The weather here has been crazy too. 80 then 50then 70. UGH!

it's a weird lesson isn't it? You love this little snail life but it's killing the other life you love.

I am glad you are feeling better

I hate snails and slugs. Slugs are my problem in my yard. I have read that you can place copper flashing aroung the garden and they will not cross it because it gives them an electric shock. Never read if it kills them just that it will shock them so they will not cross it. Might work with snails too. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Love Hugs and Blessings

I read somewhere to leave containers or old tins with stale beer remnants. Snails and slugs love it and drink themselves into oblivion. Maybe that's just your stereo-typical australian slug. Glad you're feeling better.

Lookslike you're feeling better? I hope youre bug goes away soon!!

I found a snail today on the window, and thought yuk! and remembered this post and laughed! I dont mind snails as long as theyre not eating my veggies that we have planted.

I know what you mean about killing anything...but when you stop to think about it...there are so many predatory animals out there that survive by eating each other (and thats the natural order of things) Maybe we as a species have to kill things like bugs and snails or our survival is at risk. Believe me the veggies you buy at the store have probably been raised on unkind farms.

I vote it's the chemicals, They may be good at chasing bugs, but they always seem to leave cobwebs in my head...So glad you are feeling better!

For me it was deer and how can you hold deer eating your vegetables against them?! But I did! Not personally, just wished I had a tall fence is all. You do sound like you're getting crazy weather for that time of year, that's a lot what it's like here, dark and rainy for five months of the year. How odd that you may actually get snow during your summer! I think Mother Nature is going through an identity crisis.

I try to discourage slugs and snails in my garden, but I never kill them. For me, like your Buddhist neighbour, all life is sacred and beautiful in its own way. I will have to post my slug poem up on my blog!

We are having the same confusion in SA. High 30's, low 20's, high 30's again. All over the place. But we aren't getting ANY rain. So unfair!!!!

We do not have snails but we have slugs, and I HATE them. I set out pans of beer (CHEAP beer, at Dan's insistence) and drown them. I don't know if snails are attracted to beer too, but if they are, it works a charm!

So weird to think of you gardening and us.... trying to hibernate and not, in this modern world, being able to.

I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well - hope you're feeling better now, and that you get whatever weather seems to work best for you this Christmas (Chrislith?) season...
I don't mind relocating the snails as much - as I do running across slugs *SHIVER* - they just seem unnatural without any shell on them - ewwww....
Hope you get well soon, if you're still feeling under the weather - Take good care of you ((hugs))~xOxO
