new moon in Cancer

the altar in my bedroom.. for New Moon I added my two Cornish stones to honour my ancestors and a Winter Rose to nourish my soul..

I love my Moon Diary.. not only is it specific for us down here in Australia but it also gives a whole page of suggestions what one can do at New & Full Moon.. this Cancer New Moon it is suggested that these questions are pondered: how can I connect with my ancestors and reach a deep understanding of what it means to belong to my family & how can I nourish my soul and those I love.. there are others, but these two will do me for this month.

I think I may have mentioned once or twice, that i have traced my roots back to 14thC Cornwall and I know I have other branches of my family tree in Scotland.. My great grandfather William Truscott came to Australia on active duty with the Royal Navy.. he loved this land so much and could see it was a wonderful place to bring up his family that he sent for his wife, Laura to come here to live.. so she left her England and family and sailed to Australia with her children... not long after that William died on active duty from pneumonia, I believe.. leaving Laura a widow in a strange land with their children. How did she cope? did she love Australia so much that she stayed here to bring her family up? I don't know, you see, these kind of stories have not been handed down.. my family were not story tellers... I could ask my mother but much as I love her, I know if she didn't know the story, then she would make it up.. and I want facts. I want to know if Laura missed Cornwall, I want to know if they were witches.. I want to know if they grew herbs and made their own poultices, tisanes and other herbal remedies, like I do.. I have an inner knowing of herbal lore.. never studied it in my life.. I know she loved her garden, I know she said their were faeries down at the bottom of her garden - like I do. She had geraniums in front of a photo of her deceased husband.. why? was that some kind of Cornish folklore? this yearning to know is getting stronger as I get older and sometimes I could just weep with the strong desire to know more of my roots.
In fourteen hundred and ninety two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. - This was about the time 'my' first recorded Tregilgas was living in the area of St. Ewe - John Tregilgas a tinner from the Stannary of Blackmore....I must get to Cornwall..

Last night I sat in meditation...and I felt her presence as well as my Pa's.. I realized that he was a typical Cornishman.. quite short & very olive skin..same as me..I felt so connected..I also connected very strongly with my higher self..like a knowing came over me, that my higher self has all my answers and they are available to me always.. I just have to follow my intuition and as a confirmation that I am on the right path, the cards I pulled were both strongly connected to ancestral connections, knowledge and wisdom..

I know that Laura is guiding me.. if I sit at this New Moon, maybe she will lead me to answers or knowings...today, I hope to sit under my pine tree .. breathing with the new moon, celebrating that I am here.. then I will dig up my quartz crystal and begin again.. starting over, flowing with the rhythm of Mother Earth... and tonight, I will have a lovely long lavender bath...surrounded by my moonstones.

the next Full Moon is 14days away... and our band of Earth Healers will gather together across the globe to send healing to Mother Earth.. as we heal Her, She will heal us.. we are one with her, not separate... as Sr.K says to me often: "Gaia and I, Gaia and you, Gaia and the human race are one" ....
if you would like to be part of the monthly Full Moon Earth healing ritual.. please email me and I will add you to the email list... (email on my profile) ~ have a blessed New Moon & a lovely lavender bath !

I very much enjoyed your post. I too have done family research. And know that my ancestors practiced herbal meds and moon gardening. They had rule that were called superstitions. I have herd some. But my Mother did not pass on knowledge. My grandma told my Aunt that they had Indian in them but could pass for white so they were not to tell any one. for fear of bad treatment. The Indian ways were similar to pagan ways. So now I try to learn as much of my ancestry from my aunt in Wv. I hope you don't mind me sharing this .
Be blessed my friend.

Thank you for your comments. I suspect most women have similar stories by the time they reach a certain age... I am 32.

I know how you feel about Christianity! This other version of Christianity has helped me reconcile my Christian upbringing with my faith and reclaim all that wonderful heritage that is tucked up in the religion of this country. So many churches were built on earlier holy spots...

I personally don't think the grand Wicca documented by Crowley was the faith of the common people. There were other people that sought to document the folk religion of the common people though and some of them seem to have be drawn to Cornwall. There is even a museum of witchcraft. I shall try to look out some book names for you...

Cornwall does have a certain magic. i grew up in that area north of London, part Anglia, part home counties. It seems to me in comparing the two that the Cornish had all their ancient holy places adopted by Celtic Christianity wholesale so they became holy before the Roman Catholic church returned to Britain. Consequently all the holy wells, stone circles, interesting traditions etc or at least most of it survived.

Where I grew up, much of it seems to have been destroyed or lost or forgotten. There arn't really any holy wells, or sacred hill tops. The occasional barrow maybe and old stately homes but that ancient pagan heritage is harder to find there.

Here it glares at you from all over the place...

I know some Curnows. Very Cornish name. Don't know any Tregilgas though...

Also Cornwall used to be much, much bigger. I did some posts on Lost Lands that go into it but at different times in history Cornwall has been connected to Europe and has a very close connection to Brittany (another Celtic nation). They were separated by the lost land of Lyonnese.... So we may all have had past lives here....

Mmm this is an interesting post... I totally understand the connection and fascination with an ancestor that you know but dont know enough about. I practised my 'religion' I suppose faith is a better word secretly and alone for nearly 30 years before 'coming out' but its still very hard for me to talk about these things... but here goes... I never knew my grandfather, had never seen a photograph of him, but one night I 'dreamed' that I met him on a plane and he asked all sorts of questions about my children, I woke up feeling like I had actually met him and when my father finally dug out a photograph of him... it was the same gentleman. Why it happened to be on a plane I dont know... but there you go! Seek her and she will come to you, is already with you and part of you and you will find that you already know her very well!

Lovely.

It's still fascinating to me that you can have hellebore when the moon is in Cancer! Such a difference sharing the other half the Earth and what a difference it makes to what we see and live...

Cancer is my natal moon so I am looking forward to coming back into my own power which has been dwindling of late.

I'll be part of your circle as you know...

This was a lovely post. Serene...nice.

I agree...such a lovely post. My mother has done some great excavating into our family history and traced our roots back to Scotland and Ireland....likely why I'm intuitively drawn to the Celtic pantheon. I have dreams of wild rides across the moors on shaggy ponies....just snippets, like sound bites but it makes me wonder...

When the time is right I'd like to to do some deeper ancestral work - there were many wise and intriguing women in my family, more than a few, I'm sure, who were witches -- my great grandmother for one.

I'm with Holly in finding it so interesting to *see* what your half of the world looks like at this time of year...:)

~brightest blessings~

You have a lovely blog... I'm new to the Blue Mountains but like you also feel that this is the right time and the right place for me to be right now... and earth healing is so important. The solstice energy on the weekend was something indeed :) I have placed a link to your blog from mine and would love you to stop by sometime.

Back again.. I will email when I have some time! I love that you used to see fairies... Have you seen them again since? I guess I just want to know what I should be working on, what I should be doing... I guess what I should be doing is waiting patiently and getting on with my life...

There is one book I am thinking of for you but I have never read it. It is about a witch finder who worked in Cornwall recording the folk religion. I wonder if maybe you might get lucky and find that he or someone else who did something similar might record a meeting with a Tregilgas - who knows.....

Beautiful post. It's quite frustrating to know just a little about a past relative and yet not be able to really know them. It would be great if we could just have a few minutes to talk to them and ask all the questions we wanted answers for. Of if they were kind enough to leave behind some written journal to tell about themselves.

You must feel blessed to feel your ancestors, if only occasionally... I would love to have meet my two Grandfathers but they died long before I was born.

Maybe you could draw your faeries. Sit where you think they might be and draw what you think 'might' be there. Maybe by paying more attention like this your 'view' of them will become stronger?

It would lovely if you could post some of those photos sometime... Or maybe you already have?
